Welcome to clickbAIt!

clickbAIt is a multiplayer game where you can write dumb stories with friends or strangers.

How to play (short)

  • Join a room by entering a 6-character code or joining a random open room.
  • Input your username and press "go."
  • The room owner starts the game, and you'll be prompted to complete different parts of a story.
  • Players vote on the best headline for an image generated by an AI, based on the stories.
  • The winning headline and original prompt are sent to an AI to create an article.
  • Repeat until all images have been seen.

I hope you and your friends enjoy my game! I'm working on this solo, so if you'd like to make a donation, I would greatly appreciate it1 Thank you!

How to play (full)

  1. Start by joining a room. You can either start a new room or join an already started room (either by inputting a 6-character room code or by joining a random open room). Room Join form
Join a room by inputting a username and pressing the "go" button
If you start a room, you are room owner and are in charge of starting, advancing, and restarting games.
  2. When you first log in, you will see your desktop; on this desktop is the Chat Room, where you can see who is in the room, talk to your fellow players, and vote. You will also see Grippy, your virtual assistant, here to help you learn and progress the game. If you choose to view the tutorial, you can always turn it off in settings.grippy
    yay, it's grippy!
  3. The room owner starts the game. An internet browser displaying your work email will appear.
  4. It's your boss! You and your coworkers have all handed in incomplete stories, and your boss has emailed you asking to help finish.
    1. You are now going to each complete a different part of each others' stories, which will be combined to tell the full tale. The completed stories will be combined into full sentences like this:
      who + what + when/where + why
      your input + P2's input + P3's input + P4's input
"liza minelli" + "ate a huge taco" + "on Mars" + "to impress her new friends"
"Liza Minnelli Ate A Huge Taco On Mars To Impress Her New Friends"
...so include ONLY what will be included in the story. Write "Liza Minnelli" and "ate a huge taco" instead of "it was Liza Minnelli" or "they ate a huge taco"
  5. Each player starts with their own "who". Who was your story about?
    1. Choose someone recognizable and/or well-known, since the stories will be sent to an AI trained on the web!
  6. Players then add a "what" to the previous player's story (without knowing what they put for "who").
    1. Try to keep your answers gender-neutral, since you don't know who the person is yet!
  7. This continues with a "when/where" and "why" answer until all parts are completed.
  8. The server combines the sentences and generates an image based on the story using AI.
  9. Players are shown the first image. They write a sensational, clickbait-style headline for the image without yet knowing the original story prompt (all is revealed later in the game!).
there she is! it's liza, eating a huge taco on mars!
    yum!
  10. Players vote on the best headline, delivered to you via instant messenger.
  11. The winning headline and original prompt are sent to an AI to create an article about what happened:
  12. 7-10 repeats until all images have been seen.
  13. Players can start a new round.
Notes/known issues:
  • This game is still in development, so nothing is final!
  • Landscape on mobile is currently not supported.
  • The life of the room is tenuous; as of now, a few things can break the game.
    • Refreshing the page will break the game. If you or someone in your game disconnects or refreshes, the room will need to be restarted.
    • If on mobile, your connection will break if your screen turns off, and the game will have to be restarted.
if you made it this far, I'd like to thank you much for visiting and/or playing! This is my first ever independent project, which I used to teach myself the basics of coding. It's taken months for this newbie to put together, so thank you so much!

Love the creativity here! Great work!

Thank you so much! I checked out your game, too, and it sounds like great minds think alike ☺️ I can’t believe I just never thought to have a lobby where you can see open rooms lol

Thank you! Being as this is my very first programming venture, I'd love to chat about the methods you used and bounce some ideas off you. If you are interested, my discord is Horganhoozen#4365. HMU
